Wyndcroft unveils Learning Commons
POTTSTOWN >> Students at The Wyndcroft School have a new space to look forward to after some renovations were done over summer break.
The new space was unveiled to students and parents on Tuesday during the school’s orientation day.
Wyndcroft’s Learning Commons is a combination of the spaces that were previously the school’s computer classroom, library and creative learning classroom. These three classrooms have been opened up into one large learning space that will be used by students for learning subjects including robotics, coding, internet safety, library sciences and more.
“We’re still going to be doing all the basics of typing. We’re going to learn how to use keyboards, how to use the mouse, but in addition to that we’re going to dive deeper into coding this year,” said Shannon Stone, a tech integration specialist at The Wyndcroft School. “So this space is not only for students to use computers but we’re going to be utilizing iPads, Chromebooks in this space as well. We’re also going to be using robots this year.”
Students excitedly took a look at the new learning space Tuesday as they took seats at the computers, looked through books in the adjoining library and got to know the new classroom.
In addition to learning with a Smart Board students will also learn using Chromebooks and be able to plan projects and assignments by making use dry erase tables and other new features.
“Having the wide open space and having the students have more room to collaborate by working on the glass whiteboards and the dry erase tables will be very helpful for them to be able to plan and create different things that we expect of them this year,” said Stone. “I am super excited about this opportunity and I think the kids are really going to love it.”
Classes will begin for The Wyndcroft School on Wednesday after students and parents have had the chance to explore the school on Tuesday during orientation.
