LOWER POTTSGROVE >> It was a busy weekend on Route 422 for township police.

On July 6 and again on July 7, police responded to accidents involving vehicles leaving the roadway, both around mile marker 174.6.

In the July 6 accident, the vehicle went so far off the roadway it took police time to find it. The July 7 was a roll-over.

The first crash on July 6 occurred at 2:35 a.m.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a crash involving one vehicle. They were initially unable to locate the vehicle.

Officers eventually located the vehicle by walking the wood line on the opposite side of the guardrail in the area, according to a report on the Crimewatch website.

Officers located the vehicle about 50 feet down an embankment. The vehicle had been obscured by trees and other shrubbery.

For an unknown reason the vehicle veered off of the roadway, narrowly missing the guardrail. The vehicle then traveled about 150 feet through heavy shrubbery and trees before coming to

a rest. The driver and only occupant had to be freed by mechanical means by the fire department.

The driver then had to be carried up the hill to the roadway by the fire department. The driver was later transported to the West Reading Hospital by Goodwill Ambulance with nonlife threatening injuries.

The second crash occurred at 6:31 p.m. on July 7. This crash was reported to be a rollover crash with possible ejection, according to Crimewatch.

Responding officers arrived to find an overturned vehicle, but no ejection.

The vehicle was occupied by a driver, and a front and

a rear seat passenger. The rear-seat passenger was not wearing a safety belt. The rear seat passenger was transported to the West Reading Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries by the Goodwill Ambulance.

The other occupants wore their seatbelts and only suffered minor injuries.

The department’s Accident Reconstruction Team (Officer McCue and Officer Kemp) determined the cause for this crash as vehicle failure.

Several area fire departments assisted on both crashes. Sanatoga Autobody responded and removed both vehicles.
