Source: Patriots, Edelman agree to two-year extension

FOXBOROUGH, MASS. >> A person familiar with the situation says the Patriots have reached an agreement on a two-year extension with receiver Julian Edelman.

The deal is worth $18 million and includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million in guaranteed money.

The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because terms have not been announced.

Edelman signed a twoyear, $11 million extension in 2017. He was scheduled to make $2 million in base salary in 2019, with bonuses that pushed in close to $4 million. This extension keeps the 32-year-old under contract with the Patriots through the 2021 season.

A seventh-round pick by New England in 2009, it also gives the reigning Super Bowl MVP a chance to complete his career with the team he’s helped win three rings.

Bills’ Hughes signs two-year extension

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. >> After adding a haul of players from other teams in free agency, the Buffalo Bills are rewarding one of their own.

The Bills signed top pass rusher Jerry Hughes to a two-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep the defensive end in Buffalo through 2021. Hughes’ contract was set to expire after the upcoming season.

A person with direct knowledge of the contract said Hughes will be guaranteed about $19 million, and could make as much as $23 million should he meet all the incentives.

“It feels good to have an organization, an owner, a GM and a head coach that really believes in you and is really excited for me to be back here in this building with the team,” Hughes said.

Bucs moving on from McCoy

TAMPA, FLA. >> The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are moving on from Gerald McCoy.

The team released the six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, describing the move as a mutual agreement after nine seasons.

McCoy, the third overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, was due to make $13 million next season, but none of it was guaranteed.

Coach Bruce Arians did not want to talk about the decision following one of the club’s OTA workouts, saying he had wished McCoy well in a statement released by the Bucs, and that “there’s no need for answering questions about that.”
