Phoenixvil­le places 2 in PAC singles semis

Light pulls upset, joins teammate Ellis, Smith, Waweru in final four

Phoenixvil­le will be assured a finalist in the Pioneer Athletic Conference boys tennis singles championsh­ip round.

That scenario evolved out of Friday’s opening round of play, which was altered from its original plan by rain showers early in the day. Phantoms Mike Ellis and Graham Light, both situated in the lower half of the league’s 32-player bracket, advanced to Saturday’s semifinal after playing a mixed pro-set/regular set format.

Ellis, the tournament’s third seed, will face Light in the one semi while Owen J. Roberts’ Holden Smith and Norristown’s Franko Waweru will pair up in the other. Smith is the tourney’s top seed, Waweru its fourth seed.

Ellis came off a first-round bye to post an 8-2 pro-set victory over OJR’s Peter Sagona, He then topped Spring-Ford’s Malchu Pascual 6-3, 6-4 to complete his sweep through the first day.

Light, in turn, had an 8-7 (3) victory in his first match. He followed with an 8-2 win over Pope John Paul II’s Lorenz Rustand before topping Spring-Ford’s TJ Cruickshan­k in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

On the upper level, Smith followed a first-round bye by

sweeping the opposition. He followed an 8-0 win over with Pottsgrove’s Dwight Marazas with a 6-0, 6-0 run over Upper Merion’s Jaden Mayer.

Waweru also got a firstround bye. He added an 8-3 victory over UM’s Chetan Mitra before needing a tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6 (5) verdict over Methacton’s Adam Zhang.

Baseball

SPRING-FORD 11, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » Nick Brauer and Thomas Hughes combined on a two-hitter while the Rams used a seven-run sixth inning to bring an early end to their PAC game with the Indians.

Brauer scattered two hits and a walk through the first five — he had four strikeouts to his credit — before Hughes put together a nohit sixth. The Rams’ big atbat was headed by a Conor Larkin double and Sam Barletta triple, the duo combining to drive in five runs on the day.

Spring-Ford had 15 hits in the game, with Ryne Moore, J.C. Reed, Barletta, Ethan Hellberg and Larkin each hitting safely twice. Dalton Butz and Zachary Rozanski each collected one hit to lead Upper Perkiomen. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 19, POTTSTOWN 4 » Joe Gorla and Pete Whitton each drove in three runs to help the Vikings bring their PAC game with the Trojans to a conclusion after six innings.

Gorla’s 2-for-4 day featured a triple and double, which were among PV’s six extra-base hits. Anthony D’Abbene led the way with a 5-for-5 effort. Dylan Boyd went 3-for-5 and Tyler Stretchay added a 3-for-4 showing in support of winning pitcher DJ Jampo’s four-inning mound stint.

Jimmy O’Donnell went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs for Pottstown, which was done in by PV scoring 10 times in the top of the sixth. PHOENIXVIL­LE 4, OWEN J. ROBERTS 2 » The Phantoms made their early lead hold up on the way to a PAC victory over the Wildcats.

Though getting just four hits, Phoenixvil­le was augmented by Roberts’ five defensive errors. Kevin Cushing, who threw the first six innings with eight strikeouts, got the pitching decision for the Phantoms.

Josh Fulmer (2-for-3, two RBI) was OJR’s hitting leader.

Softball

OWEN J. ROBERTS 11, PHOENIXVIL­LE 3 » Camryn Glenn went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored while Casey Walker added four hits, three runs and an additional two RBIs as the Wildcats used a five-run seventh to put the game away in a win over the Phantoms.

Darby Stuart went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the win, which saw Brittney Dellaquila go all seven innings while allowing six hits and three runs (zero earned) with five strikeouts.

Jess Eldridge pitched effectivel­y but a Phantom defense that had nine errors was the team’s downfall. Eldridge allowed 11 runs, only one of those earned, while striking out four. Six different players had hits in the loss. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 15, POTTSTOWN 0 » Kasey Souder got the pitching win while Taylor Hamm led the offense in the Vikings’ romp over the Trojans.

Souder threw one inning of one-hit softball while Hamm drove in two of PV’s runs. Kat Kincade had Pottstown’s lone hit.

Boys lacrosse

DANIEL BOONE 16, CENTRAL DAUPHIN EAST 7 » Kyle Golden had six goals and one assist to lead the Blazers to their non-league win over Central Dauphin East.

Rylan Darrenkamp added three goals and an assist for Boone (2-7). CONRAD WEISER 13, POTTSGROVE 0 » Justin Houck’s 17-save goaltendin­g was the bright spot for the Falcons in a non-league shutout at the hands of the Scouts.

Girls lacrosse

SPRING-FORD 20, POTTSGROVE 3 » Camryn Jones figured in on seven of the Rams’ scoring plays as they rolled over the Falcons in PAC play.

Jones had a game-high four tallies to go with three assists. Jill Quigley and Cassie Marte contribute­d hat tricks to an offense that bolted to a 14-1 halftime lead while Kamille Ward had three goalkeeper saves. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 16, POTTSTOWN 4 » Kat Kelley, Paige Tyson and Alex Blomstrom each netted hat tricks to lead the Vikings in their PAC victory over the Trojans.

Kelly Owens contribute­d another pair of tallies to PV’s total. Da’Zah Reguster had a hat trick to head Pottstown, with Reilly Owens adding 10-save goaltendin­g. OWEN J. Eloise Gebert, Kelsey Kilgallon and Maddi Koury each added pairs of goals to OJR’s total. Francesca Cindelor was UM’s leading scorer with two goals. MORAVIAN AC. 18, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 5 » Meagan Mullen had five goals and two assists to spark Moravian Academy’s non-league win over the Panthers.

Perkiomen got pairs of goals from Hannah Chiesa and Mikayla Matthews (one assist), with Emalee Walsh completing its scoring.

Boys golf

HILL SCHOOL 172, FRIENDS CENTRAL 194 » The Blues posted six of the day’s eight lowest scores in the course of their non-league victory over Friends Central at Brookside Country Club.

Playing in the first group, Yash Singh had a seasonlow score of 40 that led the Hill. Jack Murray (42), Joel Crooks (45) and Echo Wu (45) all had good rounds leading to a comfortabl­e victory.
