Veteran discount ID events announced

NORRISTOWN >> Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg announced that six upcoming mobile veterans’ discount identification events will be held across the county.

“I am thrilled to be able to continue to take this program on the road to serve Montgomery County veterans,” Sorg said. “We expanded the mobile veterans’ discount id program in 2016, bringing the program to 30 locations around the county, and provided discount identification cards to over 1300 veterans,” she added. Sorg is proud to partner with almost 500 merchants throughout the region that currently participate in the program and offer a discount to veterans who show their Montgomery County Veterans’ Identification Card. Since the program’s inception over 7,000 veterans have recorded their military discharge papers (DD 214s) and received a discount identification card.

“I am honored to meet veterans from across Montco at these events and hear their stories,” Sorg said. “This program allows us to honor their service to our country,” she added, “and taking it on the road makes it easier on our veteran population to record their papers without having to travel to Norristown during our normal business hours.”

Typically it can take four to six weeks for veterans to obtain a copy of their DD214 from the National Archives, but by recording it at the Recorder of Deeds office in Norristown, veterans can safeguard their discharge papers, and they, their immediate family, and representatives from county or federal veterans’ affairs can access the document, which is necessary to receive veteran’s benefits.

“The DD214 is one of the most important document a veteran holds,” Sorg said, “and recording it at my office allows veterans and their families instant access to it should the need arise.

Veterans need to bring their DD214 (military discharge) and a photo identification (such as a driver’s license) to a mobile event to record their paperwork and in minutes they will receive a veteran id card.
