Surging Michigan knocks off Gonzaga to win Atlantis title
Isaiah Livers scored 21 points, and Michigan again overwhelmed a highly ranked opponent with its flowing offense to beat No. 8 Gonzaga (8-1) 82-64 on Friday in the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Jon Teske added 19 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks as the tournament’s most valuable player for the Wolverines in the event played in Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Michigan (7-0) beat sixth-ranked North Carolina on Thursday and finished a memorable threegame run to the title by giving first-year coach Juwan Howard another marquee victory.
“Well, I’m sure we’re on the map now,” Howard said with a chuckle.
WERTZ, MITCHELL LEAD
SANTA CLARA >> Trey Wertz had a season-high 24 points, and DJ Mitchell scored a career-best 20 to propel Santa Clara (7-1) to an 87-75 win over Southeast Missouri at the Cable Car Classic at Leavey Center.
The Broncos play their third and final game in the Cable Car Classic today against Cal State Fullerton.

Satou Sabally scored 19 points and Oregon (60) overcame a tough first quarter to beat Texas-Arlington 91-54 at the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
SAINT MARY’S FALLS TO MARQUETTE >> Emily Codding scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed five rebounds, but the host Saint Mary’s Gaels lost 77-63 to Marquette at the Thanksgiving Classic at McKeon Pavilion.
SAN JOSE STATE SEES STREAK SNAPPED >> Cal State Bakersfield beat visiting San Jose State 75-71, snapping the Spartans’ four-game win streak. Ayzhiana Basallo led the Spartans (5-3) with 24 points, and Tyra Whitehead added 15 points and seven rebounds.
