Cubs’ Hamels leaves game after one inning
Chicago Cubs left-hander Cole Hamels was pulled after only one inning against the Reds on Friday night because of discomfort in his side, the latest blow to a Cubs rotation already missing Kyle Hendricks.
Cincinnati snapped a fourgame skid by beating Chicago 6-3.
Hamels struggled with his control, throwing 22 pitches. He gave up two singles, a walk and a run in the inning. He left after trying to warm up for the second inning.
Hendricks is on the injured list with a sore right shoulder. He’s expected to throw in the bullpen today and could return before the All-Star break. ORIOLES ROUT INDIANS >> The Baltimore Orioles took the luster off Mike Clevinger’s return from the injured list, scoring seven early runs off the righthander in a 13-0 rout of Cleveland in Baltimore. After notching a total of 25 wins over the past two seasons, Clevinger (12) was making his fourth start of the season.
TWINS’ ROSARIO GOES ON IL >> The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Eddie Rosario on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain before Friday’s game against the White Sox. Rosario leads the AL Centralleading Twins with 20 homers and is batting .282 with 60 RBIs in 75 games. The move is retroactive to Thursday.
