San Francisco Pride weekend: Here’s a primer
The event with its massive crowds returns to the city Saturday and Sunday
It’s time for the San Francisco Pride celebration, the highlight of which is the annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Parade. The theme for this year is “Generations of Resistance.” We’ve rounded up the top events for Pride 2019, which runs Saturday and Sunday. Go to www.sfpride.org for more information.
LGBT Pride Parade
More than 100,000 spectators are expected to turn out for the parade, which in 2018 featured some 50,000 participants and nearly 290 contingents. START TIME » 10:30 a.m. Sunday ROUTE » Along Market Street, starting at Beale Street and running to Eighth Street. GRAND MARSHALS » Mrs. Vera, Vince Crisostomo, Ms. Billie Cooper, Donna Personna, APIENC, “Vida” series creator Tanya Saracho and cast members Mishel Prada, Ser Anzoategui, Chelsea Rendon, Carlos Miranda. BEST SEATS » Purchase tickets ($40-$42.50) to sit in the grandstands, which are located on the north side of Market Street between Seventh and Eighth streets. Celebration and Rally
Amara La Negra, from the TV show “Love and HipHop: Miami,” and Brazilian drag queen/performer Pabllo Vittar are among the many acts featured during the two-day celebration. BART» Use the Civic Center stop for the Celebration and Rally. Those going to the parade can use any of the downtown stops. Go to bart.gov/bartable for more information. And if you are headed into the city for any reason Sunday morning, the parade will create significant traffic issues. Volunteers are encouraged to bring hammers and gloves and wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and sunscreen. Visitors are also welcome to view the installation located at Twin Peaks; www.thepinktriangle.com.
