Not everyone is a fan of new express lanes on I-680
QI can’t help but wonder if you aren’t collecting some sort of kickback from the individuals proposing more toll lanes.
You should have your head examined for promoting these outrageous burdens on the majority of drivers in the Bay Area. — Jim Walsh, Concord
A Uh-oh. Incoming fire today. And more coming.
Q Sure, for those able to pay, express lanes are a good idea. But what about the rest? They’re forced by circumstances to eat up their free and family hours grinding along in excruciating gridlock. This is beyond unfair. And no one seems to care. — G. Cauthen, Oakland
A I care. Really I do.
Q These express lanes through Alamo,
Danville and San Ramon on Interstate 680 have done nothing but snarl traffic. It’s nothing more than another money-grab by this state. Hate it! — Forrest Smit, Alamo
A Yikes.
Q Regarding your story on 680 express lanes breaking ground: Solo drivers are hopeful? Ha! Wait until they see the toll fee. I was driving 680 southbound last Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and it was $9 to ride in the express lane from Pleasanton to Calavaras Boulevard. Nine bucks! What a ripoff! Needless to say, there were very few cars in the express lane. For that price I’ll stay in my lane, listen to some music and relax as I sit in traffic. — Phil Ackerly, Santa Clara
A Like “Hitting the Road Again”?
Q The project to add a carpool/express
lane northbound from Autopark Mall Parkway in Fremont to north of State Route 84 in Sunol is just 9 miles. Why on earth is this going to take almost 2.5 years to complete? The time frame is ridiculous! — Joanne Hollende, San Ramon
A But not everyone is steamin’ mad.
Q I’m totally down to pay to not sit in traffic if I need to get somewhere on time. … It’s an optional toll. When I drive I-680, I can opt to drive the general purpose lanes. — Ashraf Chowdhury and Irvin Dawid
A That you can.
