Friends of Haleakala scholarships available
County residents from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday.
This foundational training is appropriate for those who are looking for an introduction to the topic.
Participants will learn core principles, local data, risk and protective factors, warning signs, best practices for connecting with someone who may be having thoughts of suicide, safe messaging and community resources.
The training will also help to create common knowledge and language around suicide prevention for any adult audience and is meant to be a springboard to more advanced training.
Registration is capped at 30 and participants should be prepared to have their cameras on.

The Friends of Haleakala National Park is now accepting applications for two $1,000 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be Hawaii residents either continuing a college program in 2021-22 or graduating from high school this spring and admitted into an accredited college or university this fall. In addition, successful applicants must either be studying or plan to study a field related to the biology, ecology and/or conservation of the Haleakala National Park ecosystem.
The two $1,000 scholarships honor the lives and work of former Haleakala National Park Superintendent Don Reeser and Friends of Haleakala National Park cofounder Mary Evanson.
The application deadline is April 22.
