Clay's Shelby McClain is the Florida Times-Union's latest First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the 202324 high school sports season, covering the week of April 29-May 4 in the Jacksonvil­le area.

The senior caught eight passes for 90 yards and a touchdown and helped the Blue Devils to a shutout on defense to win the Region 2-1A flag football championsh­ip.

She placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Jack Cox (Bolles boys lacrosse), Brian D'Errico (Beachside baseball), Zach Hyatt (Fleming Island boys tennis), Amiyah Jones (Baldwin softball), Brooke McCoy (Episcopal girls lacrosse), Mychaela Parker (Orange Park girls track), Madison Schramm-Santos (Ponte Vedra girls tennis), Jeffrey Simmons (Creekside boys volleyball), and Chavez Williams (Riverside boys track).

It's time to vote for Florida TimesUnion's next First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the week of May 6-11, 2024.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nomination­s emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonvil­le.com.

This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonvil­le.com/ sports.

Here are the nominees from May 6-11.

The senior center fielder went 3 for 3 with three runs scored, three stolen bases, a double and an RBI in the Warriors' 6-2 win over Suwannee in the Region 1-3A first round.

Katherine Kelly, Ponte Vedra girls track

The junior cleared a personal best of 11 feet, 3 3/4 inches to win the pole vault, helping the Sharks to the team championsh­ip for Region 1-3A.

Aidan King, Bishop Snyder baseball

The senior pitched a one-hit shutout with 20 strikeouts, adding a home run and a double at the plate, leading the Cardinals past Providence 3-0 in the Region 1-3A first round.

Jake Officer, Episcopal boys track

The junior won the Region 1-2A championsh­ips in the 800-meter run (1:55.05) as well as the 1,600 (4:17.96).
