Briefs CRASH INTO FENCES, DECK KILLS WOMAN

A woman died early Tuesday in Douglas County after the vehicle she was driving crashed through fences in four backyards before slamming into a deck, officials said.

The name of the woman was not released.

The crashed happened at 2:03 a.m. off University Avenue east of Crest Hill Lane, said Lauren Lekander, spokeswoma­n for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Nederland cougar died of old age.

A female mountain lion found dead in Nederland last month succumbed to old age, officials said.

The mountain lion, which had attacked a dog in early March, was found by hikers on March 14.

The lion was sent to a laboratory in Fort Collins for a necropsy, which found no traumatic injuries or anything suspicious.

“The lion just had some indication­s that it basically died of old age,” said Kristin Cannon, a Colorado Parks & Wildlife district wildlife manager.

South Metro delivers baby in a parking lot.

South Metro Fire Rescue emergency responders aided in the birth of a baby boy in a parking lot on Tuesday morning.

At about 9:05 a.m., an expecting mother and father stopped their vehicle in a parking lot at 20209 E. Smoky Hill Road and called 911.

Veteran 911 dispatcher Angie Schell gave the couple instructio­ns as firefighte­rs and paramedics responded to the scene.

The delivery happened about 9:11 a.m., the fire department said.

“In a profession filled with tragedy, answering a 911 call and delivering a child … most certainly put smiles on everyone’s faces,” said Schell, who said it was her first onthe-job assist with a childbirth.

Short chase leads to big drug bust.

A short police chase near Mead resulted in an arrest and the seizure of more than 200 grams of illicit drugs.

Early Friday, a Weld County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, but the car took off leading deputies on a short chase.

The driver, Dakota Austin Huscher, 22, was taken into custody. In the car, deputies found loaded guns, 10.4 grams of methamphet­amine, 14 ounces of marijuana, 172.7 grams of mushrooms, 24.9 grams of heroin, 19.1 grams of cocaine, 4.8 grams of LSD and 9.2 grams of marijuana concentrat­e.
