PIONEERS BEAT ORAL ROBERTS BY ONE IN MEN’S BASKETBALL
Joe Rosga scored 13 points with 10 rebounds, Jake Krafka made three free throws at the end and Denver beat Oral Roberts 66-65 on Sunday.
Krafka made a pair of free throws with 49 seconds left for a 65-62 lead, then came up with a steal on Oral Roberts’ next possession, got fouled with 11 seconds to go and made 1-of-2 foul shots. Javan White buried a 3pointer with three seconds left and Krafka missed a pair with a second to go. Emmanuel Nzekwesi’s half-court shot at the buzzer was just off line and deflected off the backboard.
Denver led 34-30 at halftime and never trailed after intermission.
Daniel Amigo, Christian Mackey and Jake Holtzman each scored 10 for Denver (13-14, 7-6 Summit), and Jake Pemberton grabbed 10 rebounds.
• Landry Shamut scored 19 points, and No. 19 Wichita State ended the nation’s longest home-court winning streak at 39 games, beating No. 5 Cincinnati 76-72 to leave the American Athletic Conference race wide open.
• Carsen Edwards scored 27 points to help No. 6 Purdue beat Penn State 76-73 and end a three-game losing streak.
• Jordan Poole scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half to help No. 22 Michigan take the lead, and it never trailed in the second half of a 74-62 win over No. 8 Ohio State.
• Gary Trent Jr. hit three foul shots with 1:31 left to put No. 12 Duke ahead for good and the Blue Devils, again playing without injured star Marvin Bagley III — Duke’s leading scorer and rebounder who’s sidelined because of a strained right knee — beat No. 11 Clemson 66-57.
• Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy said his resignation is now effective immediately, six days after saying he would depart at season’s end.
