- — Staff and wire reports

WEST» The shooting PUEBLO deaths of a mother and daughter in their home have been deemed a murder and suicide.

Autopsies conducted Wednesday by the Pueblo County coroner’s office revealed that 10year-old Stephie Hamula died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her mother, Jennifer, 42, died of a single gunshot, according to a sheriff’s news release.

“Overwhelming evidence indicates the mother and daughter were the only two individuals in the home at the time of the shooting,” said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor.

At this time, investigators, based on evidence and circumstances, believe Jennifer Hamula is the shooter. Interviews with Hamula’s estranged spouse, as well as other family members, have been conducted, and no evidence exists that anyone else was involved.

A family member had gone to the home Monday and found a body of one dog. That person left the home and called the sheriff’s office to request a welfare check. Sheriff’s deputies then found the mother, daughter and second dog. The dogs were fatally shot.

Part of new bridge damaged during collapse.

The unexpected collapse of a 210-foot span of the old Grand Avenue bridge crossing Seventh Street and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks downtown damaged two columns in place for the new bridge, a project official said Wednesday.

That likely will add to the cost of the $126 million project and could cause delays, said Dave Eller, regional transportation director for the Colorado Department of Transportation.
