Norwich — Paul Joseph Lynch, 83, a longtime Norwich resident, passed away unexpected­ly Monday, Jan. 23, 2023. He was born in Providence,

R.I., on Aug. 12, 1939, the son of the late Joseph A. and Agnes R. (O’Neill) Lynch, and was the loving husband of Helen Rose (Loughery) Lynch for over 60 years.

Paul honorably served in the United States Army and began working in sales after he graduated from Johnson & Wales. After Paul retired from a long career with Bozzuto’s Inc., Helen “encouraged” him to work part time, and he enjoyed interactin­g with customers at Stop & Shop for another 10-plus years. Though Paul loved working, there were things he loved far more: a good meal, a shared laugh, playing contrarian, any and all sports, spending time with friends and being with his family, most especially with Helen.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Daniel Lynch; daughter Karen Marshall and husband, David; grandsons, Matthew and wife Jessica, Connor and Drew; and great-grandson Carson; siblings, Marilyn, Brian, Franny, Butch, Jay, Jeff, Elizabeth; and numerous loving in-laws and nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by his younger brother Greg in 2021.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich. Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., Norwich. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to a charity close to your heart since he supported many that were close to his.
