UConn adds Rehfeldt to men’s hoop staff

Storrs — UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley has announced that Mike Rehfeldt has joined the UConn Sports Performanc­e Department as the director of sports performanc­e for men's basketball. Rehfeldt will be responsibl­e for all in-season and off-season aspects concerning strength and conditioni­ng training for the men's basketball student-athletes.

Rehfeldt comes to UConn after spending the last eight years as the director of sports performanc­e for men's basketball at the University of Cincinnati, which added to his extensive experience in strength and conditioni­ng for basketball and football teams at the amateur, collegiate and profession­al level.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunit­y to join coach Hurley and his staff at UConn,” Rehfeldt said. “I feel incredibly blessed and thankful to be part of a program that receives such tremendous support from the university and the community.”

Rehfeldt, 38, was hired at Cincinnati in 2012.

• Tyler Daly struck out four in two innings of relief to pick up the win as the Tide beat the Three Rivers Sonics on Tuesday, 5-2, in the Eastern Connecticu­t Major League. Doug De La Cruz, Ben Jerome and Jeremy Sagun all doubled for the Tide (2-2). Kyle Richards tripled and scored for the Sonics (0-2).

• Connor Dulin struck out six to pick up the win as the Knights beat the Clams on Tuesday, 6-0.

Tyler Schiavone drove in two runs for the Knights. Kevin Johnson had the lone hit for the Clams.

• Grafton Angevine allowed just one hit over 5.1 innings with three runs and 13 strikeouts as Norwich beat Danielson on Tuesday, 8-4, in the Connecticu­t Elite Baseball Associatio­n. Aaron Penney, Dan Eggler and Will Wolfe each had two hits and an RBI for Norwich and Tristan Smith struck out the side in the seventh inning.
