The Day

Today is our Day

- Graysen Scherer is the President of the Class of 2002 at Fitch High School. By Graysen Scherer

Welcome all teachers, staff, family, friends, and most importantly, fellow classmates. I’m grateful we’re here today, celebrating our class and our hard-won achievements. My name is Graysen Scherer and I’ve served as the President of the Fitch High School Class of 2020 for the past 4 years. Today is our day. These past few months have been unfavorable, but we have persevered. We’ve kept our heads high through it all and weathered the storm that is COVID-19. We lost some of the best days and memories of our lives in which we will never regain back. From this, we’ve learned to never take anything in life for granted and to always live in the moment.

We came into Fitch as excited yet nervous freshmen in 2016. Everyone always told us, “It goes by in the blink of an eye”. We have now completed our senior year in 2020 and realize how true this statement is. Through academics, sports, clubs, and the multitude of other events we’ve partaken in, we have created strong, everlasting bonds. These bonds have shown us that we are still a class even when apart. I know we’ve had enough despair within the past couple months and I don’t want to just acknowledge the experiences we’ve lost. Instead, let’s remember the times that made us smile and the memories we will never forget. As we set forth onto our individual journeys, I want us not to dwell on the damage this storm has caused upon a small part of our paths, but celebrate how it has helped us grow and find brighter days ahead. Thank you.
