STONINGTON NONPROFITS JOIN FORCES TO HELP

Stonington — A consortium of local nonprofit groups here are pooling their resources during the coronavirus pandemic to continue serving community members who rely on them.

Called Stonington Non-Profits, it includes more than 40 nonprofit groups whose services are available to residents.

While members typically meet on a monthly basis to discuss ways they might collaborate, with the spread of COVID-19 they recognized a greater urgency to help one another find ways to serve their audiences.

They have since discussed how to use grants to provide food donations to local pantries and whether libraries, museums and cultural centers could provide more online content for students and quarantined adults. They also boosted social media posts so that families could more easily find the services they need.

“We are facing a challenge, the extent of which many of us have never experienced. This is an extremely difficult time; it is also a time for us to show just how kind and strong we are, together as a community,” said First Selectwoman Danielle Chesebrough. “Remember, even small actions can make a big difference. If you are able to help, please consider donating to one of our many local nonprofits, purchasing gift certificates from local businesses, or signing up for membership at a local institution.”
