THREE ARRESTED IN NORWICH NARCOTICS INVESTIGAT­ION

Norwich — Police on Thursday arrested three people following a search that turned up 51 baggies of fentanyl, 32 Suboxone strips and more than $2,000, police said in a news release.

The arrestees are Ernesto Rodriguez and Sara Canwell, both of 172 Norwich Ave., Apt. 3, Norwich, and Michael Garcia of Griswold.

Detectives received a search and seizure warrant for the Norwich Avenue apartment following “numerous complaints from neighborho­od residents of suspicious activity,” which police described as consistent with narcotics traffickin­g.

Along with the drugs and cash, police said they seized three cellphones, a digital scale, materials for packing narcotics and a 2015 Ford Explorer.

Rodriguez, 52, was charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of drug parapherna­lia. He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Police said Rodriguez has 20 previous arrests, including on charges of possession and sale of narcotics.

Canwell, 35, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of fentanyl and possession of fentanyl with intent to sell. Garcia, 47, was charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of fentanyl with intent to sell.

Both Canwell and Garcia were released on a $10,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court on July 26.
