Coast Guard wins in men’s lacrosse

Cambridge, Mass. — Coast Guard earned its first win over MIT in men's lacrosse, opening its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference schedule with a 7-2 win Wednesday night.

Riley McNulty had three goals and an assist to pace Coast Guard (72), Anthony Wyler had two goals and an assist and Trey Johnson had 14 saves. MIT is 4-4, 1-1. In other games: • P.J. Kelleher had a goal and four assists and Jordan Foster scored four times as Connecticu­t College downed Trinity 10-4 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Jameson Hill had 13 saves for Conn (8-2, 4-2), which led 4-0 after one period. Trinity is 3-6, 0-5.

Women's lacrosse

• Kate McCormack scored six goals and had two assists as Mitchell beat Becker 13-7 in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams. Francesca Pinard had four goals and Jacqueline White scored twice for Mitchell (2-2).

• Unbeaten Kean took a 6-0 lead and went on to beat Coast Guard 196. Carter Sanderson and Mary Goins had two goals each for Coast Guard (8-2). Danni LeSaint and Brittany Ballack had three goals each for Kean (10-0).

• Sophie Berger and Grace O'Donnell each had three goals and an assist as Trinity overwhelme­d Conn College 17-2 in a NESCAC game. Allie Barrett scored three times for Trinity (8-2). Kate Bermingham and Jamie Navoni scored for Conn (3-7, 0-6).

Men's tennis

• Coast Guard won all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 win over Springfiel­d in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. The match at Springfiel­d was moved indoors due to the weather and started with doubles, with the Bears winning two of three of those matches. The freshman duo of Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while Mike Melampy and Jack Phillips registered an 8-2 win at No. 3. Tom Hackett, John Hu, Melampy, Fager, Phillips and Arthur Wicke won singles matches for the Bears (4-2).

H.S. girls' lacrosse

• Lydia Tinnerello had three goals and an assist and Jordan Lewis scored three times as Old Lyme won its season opener 10-3 over Morgan in the Shoreline Conference on Tuesday night. Daisy Colvin and Anna Sather each had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats and Paige Britton and Sammy Owen both scored. Also, Emily Erne had six saves. Georgia Nye had three goals for the Huskies (1-1) and Cassidy Shepard had nine saves.

Buck finished her career at Stonington with 2,205 points and 1,406 rebounds and was the two-time Gatorade Connecticu­t Girls' Basketball Player of the Year, leading the Bears to the 2006 Class M state championsh­ip. She was a four-time all-state selection. Buck continued her career at UConn, where she was a part of three national championsh­ip teams for the Huskies.
