Gioconda Bottone

-

Montville — Gioconda Bottone, 84, of Uncasville died peacefully on Dec. 3, 2016.

She was born in Palermo, Sicily, on Jan. 8, 1932, to the late Giocondo and Angela (Benigno) Pellegrino. She met and married her beloved husband, Giovanni, in Palermo on April 14, 1951. They immigrated to the U.S. together where Gioconda would work in the Manhattan Garment District for almost 40 years as a finishing seamstress. While she was predeceased by her dear husband in 1979, that would not stop the strength and fortitude of being there for her family, raising them alone, all while providing for them. She was a pillar of strength and outwardly tough, but a very giving and gentle woman at heart. In her retirement years, she moved to the area from New York with her daughter Enza, and enjoyed traveling, shopping and sewing.

Gioconda is survived by her sons, Alfred and his wife, Maria, Salvatore and his wife, Rose Alba; daughter Enza Langella; two sisters still in Italy, Iolanda and Fillippina; and four grandchildren, John and Gabriella Bottone, Christopher Langella, and John Valero.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at St. John the Evangelist Church on Maple Avenue, Uncasville. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. that same day at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville, Conn.
