Waterford — Luke P. Cappiello, 72, of Waterford entered eternal life on Nov. 30, 2015.

He was born Feb. 10, 1943, in New Haven, the son of the late Luke and Anne (Mammolite) Cappiello Sr.

He was united in marriage to the former Judy Talarczyk on Dec. 26, 1970, in St. Anthony Church, New Haven. Mrs. Cappiello survives him.

Mr. Cappiello was employed as an engineer at Electric Boat for 30 years, retiring in 2009. He was a communican­t of St. Paul Church and a member of the Waterford Senior Citizens. Luke was past president of the Sons of Italy and very active in youth soccer in Waterford. He was treasurer and event organizer for Waterford Week Soccer Camp, past treasurer of Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t Soccer Associatio­n and was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame in 2010. He served on the Waterford Week Advisory Committee for the Waterford Town Parade and was named Family of the Year in 2011.

Besides his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Judy, he is survived by two children, Michael Cappiello of Farmington and Deanna and husband, Andrew Banach, of Ledyard; his four grandchild­ren, Kelly, Eric, Megan and Sarah Banach; and two sisters, Judy Talarczyk of Hamden and Angela Donnelly of North Branford.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 2, at the Impellitte­ri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 10 a.m. on Thursday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Church, Waterford. Interment will follow in Jordan Cemetery.
