Ann Shaughnessy
Groton — Ann Shaughnessy, of Groton, passed away Nov. 25, 2015, after a brief stay at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side.
She was born April 23, 1923, in New York City, to Mary (Lewko) and Dymtro Birok, formerly of Montville.
She leaves behind her loving companion of over 30 years, Everest Brustolon of Groton; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Robin Shaughnessy of Uncasville; and daughter and son-in-law, Donna Shaughnessy and Victor Worst of Ledyard. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren, Kyle Shaughnessy, Jessica Worst, Nicholas Worst, Howard Worst, Cynthia Worst, Tiffany Franceschetti, Sarah Wilson, Sue Marrero, Kristie Shaughnessy; and her nine great-grandchildren, Katie Shaughnessy, Elizabeth Burton, Rebecca Burton, Joshua Worst, Rachael Burton, Emily Worst, James Burton, Brayden Marrero and Noah Marrero.
Ann was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church of Groton and the Ladies Rosary Society. Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered for her kindness and her generosity. She worked as a secretary at Electric Boat, where she made many dear, lifelong friends, and for over 20 years as a receptionist to Dr. Donald Kaplan of Mystic. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin F. Shaughnessy in 1981; sister, Sophie Pietrowski; and brother, John Birok.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all her past caretakers who enabled her to remain in her home of more than 70 years, and with special thanks to those who devoted themselves to her care this past year, Brenda Worst, Mary Stebbins, Katie Caldwell and Elisabeth Smith.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. Internment will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New London.
Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., is assisting her family with the arrangements.
