Elk County Clash Softball Tournament drew crowds to local parks

Benzinger and Memorial Parks were busy over the weekend as St. Marys Little League Softball held their annual Elk County Clash Softball Tournament beginning Friday and ending on Sunday afternoon.

Teams competed in the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U divisions, with the St. Marys Pounders fielding a squad in each.

8U

Seven teams were in action in the 8U division of St. Marys Little League Softball’s Elk County Clash Tournament over the weekend.

The 8U tournament was played Friday and Saturday at Memorial Park.

The St. Marys Pounders, North Stars, and Sideline Cancer all finished pool play with 2-0-0 records, while Blaze was 1-1-0, and Lady Warriors, Philipsbur­g Phenoms, and Atlas Animals were 0-2-0.

In the opening round of bracket play, Blaze defeated Lady Warriors 11-7, Sideline Cancer defeated Philipsbur­g Phenoms 13-5, and North Stars defeated Atlas Animals 13-3.

St. Marys Pounders had a bye to the semifinals as the top seed and defeated Blaze 14-12 to advance to the championsh­ip game. In the other semifinal, North Stars defeated Sideline Cancer 15-13.

In the championsh­ip game, North Stars defeated the St. Marys Pounders 13-7.

10U

Six teams were in action in the 10U division at the Elk County Clash Softball Tournament, with the St. Marys Pounders ending pool play as the top seed with a 3-0-0 record.

Hailstorm 10U Bair and PA Tigers both finished pool play with 2-1-0 records, Worth Prospects 10U Fry and Atlas Animals both went 1-2-0, and Pa Lunachicks were 0-3-0.

Bracket play opened on Sunday morning with Worth Prospects defeating Atlas Animals 7-3 and PA Tigers winning 5-2 against Pa Lunachicks.

In the semifinals, Worth Prospects edged St. Marys Pounders 5-4 and Hailstorm 10U Bair shut out PA Tigers 11-0.

In the championsh­ip game, Worth Prospects defeated Hailstorm 10U Bair 8-4.

12U

There were also six teams in action in the 12U division.

Hailstorm Sherman and PA Lunachicks both finished pool play with 3-0-0 records. Pittsburgh Power 12U went 2-1-0, St. Marys Pounders went 1-2-0, and NEPA Rivercats and Rampage Rebels both went 0-3-0.

In the first round of bracket play, NEPA Rivercats defeated the St. Marys Pounders 16-6 and Pittsburgh Power 12U defeated Rampage Rebels 17-0.

In the semifinals, Hailstorm Sherman defeated NEPA Rivercats 8-0 and PA Lunachicks won6-2 against Pittsburgh

Power 12U.

In the championsh­ip game, PA Lunachicks defeated Hailstorm Sherman 6-3.

14U

There were only four teams in the 14U division.

Sideline Cancer ended pool play with a 3-0-0 record, St. Marys Pounders finished 2-10, NEPA Rivercats were 1-2-0, and PA Lunachicks 14U were 0-30.

In the opening round of bracket play, NEPA Rivercats defeated St. Marys Pounders 7-3 and Sideline Cancer won 8-0 against PA Lunachicks.

In the championsh­ip game, Sideline Cancer defeated NEPA Rivercats 5-1. St. Marys Pounders and PA Lunachicks also faced off again, with the Pounders winning 10-0.

16U

Six teams were in action in the 16U division.

St. Marys Pounders ended pool play with a 2-0-1 record. NEPA RC – Chipego and PA Tigers both finished pool play with 2-1-0 records.

PA Tigers 16U – Navy was 1-1-1, NEPA Rivercats went 1-2-0, and Outkast was 0-3-0.

In the first round of bracket play, PA Tigers 16U – Navy won 6-1 against NEPA Rivercats and Outcast defeated PA Tigers 6-1.

In the semifinals, PA Tigers 16U – Navy edged the St. Marys Pounders 7-6 and NEPA RC – Chipego defeated Outkast 11-1.

In the championsh­ip game, PA Tigers 16U – Navy edged NEPA RC – Chipego 8-7.
