SMA track and field squads sweep Johnsonbur­g in opener

The St. Marys Area High School girls’ and boys’ track and field teams hosted their first home meet of the season on Thursday afternoon when they took on squads from Johnsonbur­g. The Lady Dutch defeated the Ramettes 98-50, and the Flying Dutchmen defeated the Rams 84-62.

In the girls’ track events, SMA’s Adriana Buck won the 100 meter dash in 13.91 seconds, with teammate Zahra Baluch finishing second in 13.99 seconds. Gabby Pistner won the other two dashes, taking the victory in the 200 meter dash in 28.71 seconds and in the 100 meter dash in 1:00.18.

Kelsie Bellotti won both the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run for the Lady Dutch. Bellotti had a winning time of 2:49.09 in the 800 meter run and 6:01.80 in the 1600 meter run.

Johnsonbur­g’s Alexis Rohr won the 3200 meter run in 14:36.16.

Maddy MacAFee won both hurdles events for the Ramettes, posting a winning time of 17.41 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles and a time of 52.33 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Lady Dutch swept all three relays, winning the 4x100 in 52.98 seconds, the 4x400 in 4:40.79, and the 4x800 in 13:36.28.

In the girls’ field events, Johnsonbur­g’s Izzy Lawrie won the high jump with a jump of 4’6”. SMA’s Becca Gnan won pole vault, clearing a height of 7’.

Emma Garstka won both long jump and triple jump for the Lady Dutch. Garstka had a winning jump of 14’2” in long jump and 29’6.5” in triple jump.

SMA’s Rylee Nicklas swept all three throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 34’5”, discus with a throw of 93’7.5”, and javelin with a throw of 103’3”.

Each of the boys’ individual track events had a different winner.

Johnsonbur­g’s Kaiden Garris won the 100 meter dash in 12.18 seconds, Dutchman Johnny Bandy won the 200 meter dash in 26.24 seconds, and SMA’s Lukas

Curtis won the 400 meter dash in 57.48 seconds.

Dutchman Jacob Nedimyer won the 800 meter run in 2:10.94, Johnsonbur­g’s Aiden Magnusson won the 1600 meter run in 5:08.39, and the Rams’ Eli Schreiber won the 3200 meter run in 10:08.85.

Johnsonbur­g won both hurdles events, with Gavin Lehman winning the 110 hurdles in 19.93 seconds and Richad Elliott winning the 300 hurdles in 48.24 seconds.

The Flying Dutchmen swept all three relays, winning the 4x100 in 46.14 seconds, the 4x400 in 3:47.18, and the 4x800 in 9:05.53.

In the boys’ field events, Dutchman Devlin Caskey won high jump with a jump of 5’8”. Johnsonbur­g’s Richard Elliott won pole vault, clearing a height of 9’.

SMA’s Andrew Field won both long jump and triple jump. Field had a winning jump of 20’7” in long jump and 40’2.25” in triple jump.

Johnsonbur­g’s Michael Beil won both shot put and javelin. Beil had a winning throw of 44’1” in shot put and 132’9” in javelin.

Dutchman Aidan McAlee won discus with a throw of 113’0.5”.

The St. Marys Area girls’ and boys’ track and field squads will next be in action on the road against Bradford in a 4 p.m. meet on Tuesday, April 2.
