- By BRIAN WUEBKER

The Marion Local Flyers were able to make more plays down the stretch to win a barnburner at 52-50 in overtime to win the girl’s basketball DIV Wapakoneta district title. Marion Local improves their record to 19-7 and will advance to the Vandalia regional to play Mississinawa Valley, while Minster ends their season at 19–7.

Marion Local Coach Beth Streib stated about the win, “We knew it was going to be a dogfight like it always is. We clawed our way back and they would hit a big shot. We had some seniors hit some big shots toward the end. Nora hit a 3, Audrey hit a big 3 and made a hustle play at the end, and Dirksen hit some free throws, so they weren’t ready to be done. It was a great effort. Minster played hard as well. Definitely could have gone either way.”

Minster Coach Mike Wiss

stated about the game, “We played hard. That’s what the

Northwest District in Wapak is like. We had a few chances.

They knocked a few of them down at the end of regulation. 21 (Winner) hit one on the wing and 14 (Eckstein) hit the one that sent it to overtime. It’s this Northwest District, it’s division IV and it’s hard. Marion Local’s advancing. I wish them the best. I’m really proud of our kids. We work hard and you know when Minster takes the floor against you, we’re going to fight.”

In the first quarter, Marion Local and Minster traded the first 8 between them as Avae Unrast made 2 free throws to start the scoring with Addi Inskeep answering for Minster. Allison Dirksen hit a mid-range jumper and Inskeep answered again. Mya Eckstein rebounded a missed shot and put it up and in to give the Flyers a 6-4 lead. Minster was able to score 9 of the last 11 with five different girls scoring to end the quarter at 13-8.

In the second, Marion Local quickly got the Minster
