Pottstown Area Artists Guild

Talk: The Pottstown Area Artists Guild will sponsor a talk by artist and craft paper maker Doug Zucco Tuesday, May 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Boyer Gallery at The Hill School Center For The Arts, 760 Beech St., Pottstown. Zucco will talk about his path to making paper and using this medium for both 2D and 3D creations. This

event is free and open to the public.

Dining with Diabetes: Penn State Cooperativ­e Extension will offer a Dining with Diabetes class Tuesdays, May 21 to June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at CarePlex, 81 Robinson St., Pottstown. Dining with Diabetes is a nationally accredited program for adults with or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Family members and/or friends are also invited to attend the program. Classes are offered weekly for five weeks, with a three-month follow-up. Participan­ts will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple and tasty. Participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to help prepare recipes and sample the foods and will also learn informatio­n on nutrition, planning and important diabetes-related medical tests. A1C, a measure of blood glucose levels (for an additional cost of $16), and blood pressure will be taken at the first and follow-up classes. Participan­ts also will receive a Dining with Diabetes Cookbook and a series of informatio­nal booklets. This class, a $200 value, is offered at $39. Preregistr­ation is required due to space and can be made by Extension Customer Service at 1-877-345-0691 or online at extension.psu.edu.

Schuylkill River Sojourn: The 21st annual Schuylkill River Sojourn will run from June 1 to 7. People of all experience levels are invited to come along for the kayak or canoe paddling event. Participan­ts will take a seven-day, 112-mile guided journey along the Schuylkill River starting in Schuylkill Haven and ending in Philadelph­ia. Cookbook Club and Monthly Potluck: Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. Sign up at the library to make a recipe from the cookbook of the month, and then join to eat, discuss and share in joy of cooking and baking. Contact the library for the feature book of the month.

Science in the Summer: July 1 and 2.
