On June 28, the annual Germantown Relay for Life was staged at Municipal Park. As the DJ kept the music playing, walkers who represented the 11 teams were on hand to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event began at 6 p.m. and ended at 6 the following morning.

When asked about the all night aspect of the event, co-chair Lori Kuhuski said, “The significance is that we are up all night because cancer never sleeps.”

Kuhuski is a 24-year survivor of colon cancer.

“Sometime this summer, Relays for Life, which are held in every state in the United States plus in over 20 countries, will hit the $5 billion mark. That is $5 billion donated to the American Cancer Society to further their research into all forms of the disease.”

As the Germantown Relay prepared to get started, Kuhuski’s co-chair, Pam Greenwood, further added, “We are part of a group of 400 total Relays that The survivor’s lap is the official start of any Relay for Life. Survivors are joined by care givers to honor all those who have won and those who have lost their battle with cancer. are being held around the world this weekend. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way; themselves, family members or friends.”

As of July 1, the Germantown Relay raised $22,251.81. For more information or to make a donation to the American Cancer Society, visit relay forlife.org/germantowntn.
