Pulling a 180, reading is now fifth-grader’s favorite subject

- By Chris Van Tuyl

“I’ve gotten to learn more things and I have better experience with books now,” he said. “Before I was in READ 180, I didn’t like reading books.”

Through five learning zones — reading, spelling, success, word and writing — the instructional software is hard for the 12-yearold to pass up. It’s oftentimes addictive for Nicholas and his classmates.

“I’ve been in it for two years,” he said. “It’s changed me.”
