Two here are ‘best’ employers

-

TWO LOCAL EMPLOYERS — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Baker Donelson law firm — are included in Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” rankings.

Released Thursday, the rankings had St. Jude at No. 39 in the nation, a move up from its No. 80 status in the last survey.

Baker Donelson is No. 54; it had been No. 50.

The two employers are the only ones that made the list in Tennessee. Mississippi had one employer on the list: American Fidelity Assurance, of Jackson. Arkansas did not have any.

Explaining what makes the organizations so great to work for, the article states of St. Jude: “No family, regardless of income, pays anything out of pocket for care at this prestigious Southern nonprofit. Employees take pride in that — and enjoy a wide range of perks including a company garden and subsidized tuition.”

The research hospital employs 3,580, according to Fortune.

Of Baker Donelson, the article states: “Employees rave about the caring atmosphere at this Southern law firm. One hourly clerk wrote that if the entire Baker Donelson staff were on the Titanic, managers would have dived in to save the staff.”

The law firm says it employs 1,142.
