A man wanted by Delaware city police in connection with the shooting death of his parents was arrested Monday morning after an overnight search.

Delaware police were called around 3 p.m. Sunday to a home on the 200 block of Bristol Drive to check on Mohamed Alusine Kandeh, 61, and Bintu Kandeh, 60, after a family member called to say the couple didn’t show up to meet them.

When officers arrived, they found the Kandehs dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police issued a warrant for the arrest of their 25-year-old son, Mohamed Lamin Kandeh, in connection with their shooting deaths. Delaware police Chief Adam Moore said it’s believed that the three Kandehs all lived together in the two-story home in the Kensington Place subdivision north of Kilbourne Road on the city’s east side.

Kandeh was driving the white Chrysler 200 police had issued an alert on when he was stopped around 11 a.m. Monday by the Ohio Highway Patrol near the intersection of Maloney and Mccurdy roads in Oxford Township near Ashley, less than 10 miles from his home. He was taken into custody at the scene by Delaware city police and will eventually be transported to the Delaware County jail.

The elder Kanadeh worked as a licensed therapist with Recovery & Prevention Resources for Delaware and Morrow counties, according to the agency’s website.

Court records show the younger Kandeh was charged with aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct for an incident in November 2022 involving his father. As part of his $5,000 bond that was set in that case, the younger Kandeh was ordered to have no contact with his father except by phone, and he was prohibited from having firearms or other deadly weapons, court records state.

The younger Kandeh’s bond was reduced from $5,000 with 10% cash or bond surety to $500 with 10% surety following an oral hearing requested by the father in December 2022, according to court records.

Kandeh later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct in that case on June 1, just five days before his rescheduled trial, court records show. He was sentenced to a 26-day jail term, with credit for the 26 days he served.

As part of his sentence, Kandeh was ordered to pay a $50 court fine and court costs, a total of $347, by Tuesday, Sept. 5. Court records indicate the case was “finished,” but records list the money as due. The Dispatch could not immediately get clarification on Monday from the Delaware County Municipal Court whether the debt was paid.
