Joan Maria Schurr-kefeli, age 86, of Thornville passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2022, at Altercare North. She was born in New Orleans, LA on May 23, 1936, to the late Henry G. and Agnes (Pons) Schurr. Joan enjoyed many activities. Her primary passion was being a breeder, exhibitor, and an A.K.C. judge. She established Dunbar Kennels as a teenager which became recognized around the world during her lifetime. She began showing Norwich Terriers in 1980 and ended up being a part of approximately 200 Norwich Terrier champions and 70 Collie champions. She judged several breeds on three occasions at the Westminster Dog Show in New York and had also shown or judged at dog shows in the United States, England, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, and the Philippines. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George Kefeli, children, Drew G, Kefeli,

Natasha Kelefi- Lattin;

grandchildren, Jenna L. Kefeli, Payton Lattin, Talon

Lattin; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear

life-long friend, Cassandra Hollander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Yvette, Henry Jr., Agnes, Woodrow, Ruth, Dorothy, Leo, Rosemary, Gloria, and

Conrad. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. on May 21, 2022 at Brucker and Kishler Funeral home 985 N.21st, Newark, Ohio 43055. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation, Deacon Larry Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Take the Lead and St. Leonard Catholic Church.
