Buckeyes pick up 2018 commitment

The Ohio State women’s basketball recruiting class of 2018 grew to three this week with the verbal commitment of Hungarian forward Dorka Juhasz.

The 6-foot-3 forward visited Ohio State in late January and was in attendance for the Buckeyes’ 78-62 win over Michigan State at Value City Arena on Jan. 27. She chose Ohio State over Louisville and Missouri.

Juhasz has experience with Hungary’s national team program, averaging 11.7 points over seven games at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup last summer.

The addition of Juhasz should smooth Ohio State’s transition into next season. The Buckeyes will graduate forwards Stephanie Mavunga and Alexa Hart, and it is not immediately clear whether redshirt junior Makayla Waterman will use her final year of eligibility next season as a graduate student.

Juhasz joins a 2018 recruiting class that already includes two signees: Guard Janai Crooms of St. Andrew’s School (Rhode Island), ranked 61st overall by ESPN’s HoopGurlz, and 6-3 post player Aaliyah Patty of Montini Catholic High School in Illinois.

Indianapolis point guard Rikki Harris — No. 24 in ESPN’s class of 2019 rankings — and Dublin Coffman guard Jacy Sheldon already have committed to Ohio State’s class of 2019.

Ohio State, which won the Big Ten tournament on Sunday and rose to No. 10 in The Associated Press poll on Monday, will learn its opening round opponent in the NCAA Tournament next Monday.
