Women knock off No. 1 Wisconsin in hockey
Emma Maltais scored the game’s lone goal 15 seconds into the second period, and the sixthranked Buckeyes held off No. 1 Wisconsin 1-0 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association showdown at the OSU Ice Rink.
Matlais’ goal was her 12th and her league-leading 34th point in the WCHA. Kassidy Sauve stopped all 26 shots faced to earn her 16th win of the season. The Buckeyes (18-7-4, 11-44) outshot the Badgers (26-2-1, 17-1-1) 21-2 in the second period, but they were outshot 12-2 in the first period and 12-4 in the third.
Kristen Campbell also made 26 saves for the Badgers, who swept the Buckeyes on Nov. 4 and 5.
The teams will conclude the weekend and season series Sunday at 3 p.m.
Men’s hockey
Dakota Joshua scored two third-period goals as Ohio State (18-5-4, 11-5-1 Big Ten) doubled up Michigan State (9-17-1, 3-13-1) 4-2 at Value City Arena.
Joshua gave OSU a 3-1 lead nearly seven minutes into the third, then iced the game with 41 seconds remaining.
Matthew Weis had a pair of assists, including one on the insurance goal, and Wyatt Ege had first-period assists on goals by Ronnie Hein and Freddy Gerard that were just 2:06 apart. Sean Romeo made 25 saves, 12 of them in the third period.
Men’s volleyball
The fifth-ranked Buckeyes handed the University of Charleston its first loss of the season with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-23 win at Charleston. Jake Hanes and Maxime Hervoir led OSU with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, and the Buckeyes racked up 10 team blocks, limiting the Golden Eagles to a .038 hitting percentage.
