Callahan Christine Blum (Goodell), of San Diego, California died April 17, 2022. She started her school at Crestmoor Elementary, graduated from Stockdale High School, and concluded at Biola University.

Cal had a magical childhood and was known as a warm and bright girl with a gift for writing. She grew into a woman of the purest heart, with great generosity. She worked with refugee children, fed the houseless, and offered a helping hand wherever she saw opportunity. She reached out to many in need and inspired struggling friends and acquaintances to pursue recovery.

An artist in many forms, Cal loved to play guitar, she was accomplished in painting and drawing. She was happiest when using her talents to make gifts. True to her spirit, she pursued a career as a caregiver of young children. She bonded strongly with the babies in her care, and it seemed she always had a baby in her arms.

Family and close connections were very important to Callahan. She loved game night more than anyone. She loved the way that even a scrappy Trivial Pursuit match brought everyone together. She was happiest making friends and family laugh. Her quick and clever wit gave her the greatest joy-making others laugh.

Cal was a California girl for most of her life, but the few years she spent in Seattle gave her a deep appreciation for the Pacific Northwest. She loved the changing weather, and the peace of gazing across the waters of straits and sounds-especially the views she and Becca shared during their frequent visits to Whidbey Island. That was even where they became engaged. As a result, their deeply beloved golden doodle pup is named Whidbey.

The people around her were touched by the way she loved her wife, Becca. Cal's affection, gentleness, and loyalty stood as a model to family and friends. The preciousness of her marriage was reflected in her strong belief that love is love.

She was preceded into Heaven by Uncle Sonny, Uncle Dennis, Kelly, and Aunt Robynn. And Gemma.

Callahan is survived by her wife Becca; her mother Shelley Goodell; her father Chris (Melisa); her brothers Tanner and Alexander and sister Lucy; her grandparents Christina and Jerry Goodell--Mum Mum and Papa, Tom, and Charlotte; her Uncles Brian (Jasmine), Matt (Erin), and David; her Aunt Leslie (Charlie); and many others.

A service will be held on April 30, 2022 in Bakersfield at The Belle Rae at 11:00am, and a second service will be May 28, 2022 at 5:00pm at The Bridge Club in La Jolla.
