1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Steve Belichick has agreed to be the defensive coordinato­r for new coach Jedd Fisch at Washington, a person with knowledge of the move told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announceme­nt has been made. The son of NFL coaching great Bill Belichick will take a role in college for the first time following 12 seasons working on the staff of the Patriots with his dad. Steve Belichick was the defensive play-caller for the Patriots for the past five seasons.

2 WOMEN’S SWIMMING: Twins Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi teamed up to capture another gold medal for China in artistic swimming at the World Aquatics Championsh­ips in Doha, Qatar. They won the duet technical routine with a score of 266.0484 points. Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe gave Britain its best showing ever at worlds, capturing the silver with marks of 259.5601. Spain’s Alisa Ozhogina Ozhogin and Iris Tio Casa won bronze at 258.0333.

WOMEN’S DIVING: Reigning 3 Olympic champion Quan Hongchan gave herself a huge boost of momentum heading into the Paris Games by winning the 10-meter platform at the World Aquatics Championsh­ips. The 16-year-old Chinese star edged teammate Chen Yuxi, totaling 436.25 points over five dives. Chen, the twotime reigning world champion, settled for silver with 427.80. No one else was even close to the Chinese duo. Britain’s Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix grabbed the final spot on the podium with 377.10 for the bronze.

PRO SOCCER: Manchester 4 United defender Lisandro Martinez will be out for at least eight weeks after sustaining knee ligament damage, the club said. He was injured Sunday during a 3-0 win against West Ham in the English Premier League.

5 PRO TENNIS: Argentina reached the Davis Cup Finals group stage, eliminatin­g Kazakhstan 3-2 in the bestof-five-match qualifying round on Sunday. Belgium, Chile, the Czech Republic and France also wrapped up victories Sunday. Seven nations made it through qualifying in series that finished Friday or Saturday: the United States, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Germany, Netherland­s and Slovakia. The dozen countries that advanced will join reigning champion Italy, Australia, and wild-card entries Britain and Spain in the 16-team, four-city Finals group stage in September.
