The U.S. and Japan agreed to work to put the first Japanese astronaut on the moon, accompanie­d by an American astronaut, as the longtime allies develop a partnershi­p aimed at countering China.

3 Jif peanut butter recalled:

The J.M. Smucker Co. is recalling several widely available brands of Jif creamy and crunchy peanut butter, citing potential salmonella contaminat­ions linked to 14 illnesses. In an announceme­nt posted Friday, the Food and Drug Administra­tion listed 49 products, all but one of which correspond­ed to different sizes and packaging of Jif peanut butter, citing a multistate outbreak of salmonella infections linked to a factory in Lexington, Ky.

4 Ex-tory lawmaker jailed:

A former British Conservati­ve Party lawmaker was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in 2008. Imran Ahmad Khan, 48, represente­d the city of Wakefield in northern England until he resigned last month following his conviction for the assault, which took place before he became a politician.

5 supermarke­t victim to be laid to rest:

Buffalo Katherine “Kat” Massey is scheduled to be laid to rest Monday as funerals continue for the victims of the racist attack on a Buffalo supermarke­t. Massey, 72, has been described by her friends as a civil rights and education advocate.
