He was Lloyd Barnard, Jr., born in Norfolk, VA on February 10th, 1926 to happy parents and died peacefully in Atlanta, GA on April 6th, 2018 leaving a strong but grieving family. He was a good man and he was loved. Lloyd graduated from high school and entered the Army Air Corps for two and a half years serving with the 3rd Bomb group at Atsugi Air Base in Japan. He returned to the US and matriculated at Georgia Tech, where he became a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Following graduation, he began employment with Newcomb & Boyd Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Design Firm until his retirement as a senior partner. He was a member of Rotary, ASHRAE, and Power Squadron, and he was a long time member of the Cherokee Town & Country Club and a congregant of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta for many years.

Lloyd enjoyed many hobbies including boating, photography, african violets, genealogy, and especially creating memories with his grandchildren in his wood shop crafting boats, airplanes, submarines, dollhouses, chess boards, lamps, and a life-size playhouse. He also volunteered for many years at the Atlanta History Center.

After living in their Lakeland Drive home for 55 years where they raised their boys, met and welcomed their daughters-in-law, and greeted their grandchildren when they first entered the world, Lloyd and Martie moved to Lenbrook, a continuing care retirement community, where they embraced their new lifestyle. Always with a smile on his face, he took in stride the physical challenges life presented to him. His mind was quick and sharp to the end. "Pray to God but row towards shore.” Words arranged together on a wall in his study. This embodied our Dad, our father-in-law, our GranDad, our great-GranDad — always have a plan and be prepared as best you can. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Lenbrook, 3747 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, 30319, on April 16th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Center for the Visually Impaired, 739 West Peachtree St., NW, Atlanta 30308, www.cviga.org.
