2 local companies deliver myriad supplies to Houston
Preparations underway to also help victims of Hurricane Irma in Fla.
Two local companies brought together their resources to collect and deliver much-needed supplies to Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston, Texas.
Dustin Farthing, president of Mountain Motorsports of Marietta, contacted Atlanta Air Charter with his vision to help families affected by flooding caused by the hurricane. Their mission was to transport numerous pallets of fresh water, blankets, clothing, toys and baby supplies to those families in dire need.
On Sept. 2, a fully loaded King Air 200 airplane, a part of Atlanta Air Charter’s fleet, departed Cobb County International Airport destined for Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport to deliver the goods to those in need.
“If it was your family in need, wouldn’t you want to help them in any way possible?’ said Farthing on his inspiration to give back. “Those who have the ability to give in good times and in bad should do so. In this time of need, it was wonderful to know that we worked together to complete this humanitarian mission.”
Atlanta Air Charter Inc. donated one of their King Airs airplanes to transport the items and several company employees helped to load all the cargo onto the airplane in Cobb County. The charter company organized efforts and cleared the path with the authorities in Houston so the team would be permitted to land and offload their cargo at the MillionAir Terminal at Hobby Airport.
Team members of both Mountain Motor Sports and Atlanta Air Charter were on standby over the Labor Day weekend in Houston to help local volunteers in facilitating the distribution of bottled water, food and supplies.
The two companies are preparing to help those affected by Hurricane Irma that will impact the South and Southwest Florida. Atlanta Air Charter has already flown two hurricane-related missions to Florida and anticipates many more in the next several days.
“We are blessed by being surrounded by very giving customers and vendors. When one of our customers approached us and asked how he could give to those in need in Houston, we assembled a team of employees to facilitate the logistics,” said Chip Kaczynski, managing partner, Atlanta Air Charter. “In times of desperate need, it is simply the right thing to do when given the opportunity to give back.”

Georgia United Credit Union completed a media center makeover at Fairington Elementary as part of its fourth annual School Crashers school improvement program. The makeover included new carpeting and furniture in the media center and exterior paint projects in the front of the school.
More than 21 Cobb and Marietta City Schools received donations from Piedmont Church, which gave over $16,000 to local schools in the form of scholarships and donations. These proceeds are from the annual Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop event presented by Superior Plumbing. The Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop was held at Sprayberry High School on April 15. The Egg Drop featured three different hunts, a kids’ play area, photos with the Easter Bunny and a variety of food vendors and sponsors.
