ROSWELL Study recommends hotel in historic Roswell
A feasibility study commissioned by Roswell’s economic development entity and unveiled April 27 recommends that a 90-room “business friendly” hotel be built on the Historic Town Square.
“To remain competitive as a business destination, we need to increase the number of quality hotel options available to people doing business in our city,” said Steve Stroud, executive director of Roswell Inc.
Roswell Inc. funded the study with Visit Roswell GA and Georgia Power. Its author, the Highland Group, an Atlanta-based hotel consultant, recommends a new hotel next to Founders Square, site of Haigwood Studios, as part of a mixed-use development that also would have stores, residences and offices.
Roswell Inc. said it would take the study data and work with local developers, property owners and hotel operators “to attract the right project for this area.” Information: http://bit.ly/2pEqE72. DAVID IBATA FOR THE AJC
NORTH FULTON Milton to pay $132K for park master planning
The Milton City Council has approved a $132,340 professional services agreement to have a consultant update the citywide parks and recreation master plan, and to draw up a master plan for the recently reopened Providence Park.
Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon Inc., an architectural and engineering firm, is charged with updating the five-year citywide parks master plan, adopted in 2012; and to plan Providence Park, a former Fulton County park with 42 acres off Providence Road.
Providence Park was closed by the county in 2004, purchased by Milton in June 2015, and cleaned up and reopened last November. Barge, Waggoner also will survey Milton citizens about parks, programming and facilities issues. DAVID IBATA FOR THE AJC
FORSYTH COUNTY Commissioners debate ‘town center’ proposal
A very preliminary first step’s been taken toward a possible “town center” type development in northeast Forsyth County.
At a recent Forsyth County Board of Commissioners work session, Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Development Tony Peters laid out the idea of a potential connected development at the northeast and southeast corners of the Ga. 9-Ga. 360 intersection. He said a recent meeting between county officials and property owners produced a consensus to carry the possibility to commissioners. Peters said the plan would involve using up to $25,000 in county development authority money that would be paid to a land planning firm to develop a conceptual plan for about 100 acres.
Commissioner Laura Semanson balked, saying she didn’t like the idea of spending public dollars on a private plan that may or may not be used. Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills defended the idea, saying it was not a move to rezone property.
Commissioners made no decision, opting to take up the idea again at their May 9 meeting. MARK WOOLSEY FOR THE AJC
