Nightly lane closure on Ga. 400 through Jan. 23
The left lane of Ga. 400 northbound from Hammond to Spalding drives in Sandy Springs will be closed overnight through Jan. 23 for “pre-construction” work for the makeover of the interchange of Ga. 400 and Interstate 285, state officials say.
Weather permitting, contractors of the Georgia Department of Transportation will close the lane from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly. Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists should reduce their speed, pay attention and watch for workers in work zones, GDOT says.
The $800 million interchange reconstruction, called the Transform 285/400 project, entails new flyover ramps, new collector-distributor lanes and other facilities. It affects 4.3 miles of I-285 from west of Roswell Road to east of Ashford Dunwoody Road, and 6.2 miles of Ga. 400 from the Glenridge Connector to Spalding Drive.

County allows VFW to pour liquor near church
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Acworth now will be allowed to pour liquor in addition to beer and wine, though the post is less than 600 feet from the property line of Cedarcrest Church at 4800 North Cobb Parkway.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 Tuesday to support the 5-0 approval of the Cobb County License Review Board in its Dec. 15 override of the denial by Cobb Business License Division Manager Sandra Richardson.
On behalf of VFW Post 5408, 4764 North Cobb Parkway, William Lienhop Jr. told the review board he is hoping the addition of liquor will increase revenue for the post.
VFW Post 5408 has had beer and wine at this site since 2003, and Cedarcrest Church opened in 2013, according to Dana R. Johnson, director of Cobb County Community Development Agency, in a Tuesday memo to commissioners.
No opposition was expressed by church officials, Richardson said.
