Public hearing set to learn about budget

-

Grayson will hold a public hearing to receive comments on the proposed 2016-2017 budget at 6 p.m. Aug. 8 at Grayson City Hall, 475 Grayson Parkway.

Grayson will adopt the 20162017 budget and amended 20152016 budget at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 in the regularly scheduled city council meeting. The proposed budget will be available to the public Aug. 1 at Grayson City Hall.

Changes in the budget are a direct result of increases to the city’s tax digest due to the influx of new construction. to discuss the proposed 2016 millage rate at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 and 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Community Room at City Hall, 3167 Main St.

Duluth has tentatively adopted a millage rate that will require an increase in property taxes by 15.78 percent. This tentative increase would result in a millage rate of 6.551 mills, an increase of 0.893 mills, the millage rate increase above the rollback rate. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more than 5.658 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $200,000 is about $71.44 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $202,000 is approximately $72.15.

Written comments may by emailed to tlynn@duluthga.net, or jriker@duluthga.net.

A meeting to discuss updates on Duluth city projects previously reported for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Roma Italiano Ristorante will be scheduled as a Community Chat this fall.
