Tech grad moves up Web.com money list
Georgia Tech grad Ollie Schniederjans fell just short of winning for the first time on the Web.com Tour.
The Powder Springs native tied Brad Fritsch in the Ser-vientrega Championship in Colombia, but lost on the first playoff hole. Schniederjans hit his tee shot in sudden death in a pond, mishit his next shot into a hazard and wound up taking an 8. Fritsch won with a par 5.
Schniederjans moved up from 112th to No. 9 on the Web.com money list with his best performance to date. He battled back from a opening-round 74 and birdied the last hole to force a playoff.
“Things are in a good place,” Schniederjans said. “I’m on top of everything I need to be doing. A lot of good golf is coming up, and I’ll have a lot of good chances to win. I’m bummed that I didn’t get this one, but it was a good experience getting to play 18 holes on Sun- day, right there by the lead.”
Two other former Yellow Jackets currently rank among the top 25 on the Web.com money list, which would earn them a PGA Tour card at the end of the year. Richy Werenski is No. 12, and Anders Albertson is No. 15.
Bohn returns to PGA Tour: Eight weeks after having a heart attack, Acworth’s Jason Bohn is back on the PGA Tour. Bohn is in the field for this week’s RBC Heritage two months after being taken to the hospital following the second round of the Honda Classic and having coronary angioplasty to open a blocked artery.
Bohn went through a rigorous recovery and rehab program, but didn’t get back on the course for his first nine-hole round until March 29. He chose the return this week because the Harbour Town venue is short and relatively flat.
Three courses change ownership: Three area courses have new owners or management. Fox Creek and Legacy Golf Club in Smyrna, courses located next to each other, have been acquired by Mosaic Clubs and Resorts, who own and operate more than 200 clubs around the world. The new owners will make a $1.5 million investment in improving the golf course and clubhouses. The Woodmont Golf and Country Club in Canton has been purchased by Triumph Golf, which also owns Heritage Golf Links in Tucker.
