SCOTTSDALE – Susan MacLellan Riegel 72, (known to her friends as “Susie”) passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Valley on Sunday June 27th 2021. She was surrounded by her brother Douglas MacLellan and her long-term caregiver and friend Maria Portillo. Susan MacLellan, was born on July 5th, 1949 in Chicago Illinois. She was married to Mr. Butch Riegel who passed away in April 2016. Butch remembered Susie as a patient and loving wife! They were married for nearly 24 years.

In her early years she was a talented skier and horseback rider. Despite her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis she was a fantastic housewife and was also an active member of the Junior League in Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Arizona and was a member at Scottsdale House where she played bridge.

She grew up in Evanston Illinois, North Oaks Minnesota and Lake Forest Illinois. In 1977, she moved to Scottsdale. She received a BA degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson Arizona in 1973, she also attended William Woods University. She also lived in Denver and Tacoma before moving to Scottsdale.

Mrs. Riegel’s legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of her brother Douglas, and sister-in-law Nora, many cousin’s and everyone she came into contact with. Her wit, wisdom, expressive smile, honesty, compassion and integrity that she showed to everyone who met her will never be forgotten.

Memorial Services will be private. The family respectful­ly request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix Arizona 85014.
