Pulisic returns to US lineup for 1st time since October 2019

Christian Pulisic returned to the U.S. lineup for the first time since October 2019 for Thursday night’s exhibition against Jamaica at Wiener Neustadt, Austria.

U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter made five changes from the last time the U.S. played on a FIFA fixture date, starting Aaron Long and John Brooks in central defense, Kellyn Acosta in defensive midfield, Sebastian Lletget in advanced midfield and Josh Sargent at forward as part of a 4-3-3 formation.

Long and Brooks were paired on central defense for the third time after CONCACAF Nations League matches against Ecuador in March 2019 and against Canada in November 2019.

They were joined on the 22nd ranked U.S. by goalkeeper Zack Steffen, right

Report: Cards, McCoy to meet

The Cardinals may soon have a new backup for Kyler Murray. Veteran freeagent quarterbac­k Colt McCoy is scheduled to visit the Arizona Cardinals next week, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“There’s a good chance it will result in a deal that would make him Kyler Murray’s backup, per source,” Schefter tweeted Thursday.

Last season he saw action in four games with the Giants, starting two of them, and throwing for 375 yards, one touchdown and one intercepti­on.

ASU lands elite player commitment

ASU basketball has landed a commitment from 6-11 junior center Enoch Boakye out of George Harris Prep (Canada).

Boakye tweeted that he would be reclassify­ing to 2021.

He was ranked the No. 4 ranked center in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports Composite rankings and No. 32 overall.

Boakye had been committed to Michigan State as recently as February. ASU reportedly beat out Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arizona, USC, Duke, Kentucky, Washington State and Gonzaga for his new pledge.

ASU (12-5, 1-2 Pac-12) is coming off a 1-3 week that included losing its first series of the season at No. 15 Oregon. Washington State (12-5, 1-2) split midweek games at UNLV after going 1-2 in its Pac-12 opening series at No. 20 Oregon State. The Sun Devils are ranked No. 16 by Collegiate Baseball but unranked in the other national polls. Yunus Musah, having committed to the U.S. program long-term this month, was in midfield, and Sargent was in the center of an attack flanked by Pulisic and Gio Reyna. Sargent had not played for the U.S. since November 2019.
