July 4th forecast: Red, white and dry

High temperatur­es are expected; monsoon rain not in forecast yet

If you’ll be in the Phoenix area for the long July 4 holiday weekend, things should be pretty uneventful weather-wise.

In fact, most places around Arizona are expected to be dry with high temperatur­es near normal.

High temperatur­es in Phoenix will be right around average, which is 107 degrees for this time of year. The needed monsoon rains (the city received no measurable rain in June) are not in the forecast yet.

Those headed to some of the popular getaway destinatio­ns will probably find cooler weather, but the chance of rain doesn’t get much higher with the exception of Show Low.

Here’s what to expect if you’re going out of town.

At the Grand Canyon, look for highs in the low to mid-80s with a 5% chance of rain popping into the forecast on Sunday.

The best chance for rain may be in the Greer area. High temperatur­es are expected to be in the 70s, and the chance of rain goes from 15% on Friday up to 50% on Sunday.

Those headed for Lake Powell and

Page can expect sunny skies with highs in the upper 90s today through Sunday. A small chance (5%) of rain sneaks into the forecast for Sunday.

Payson is looking at highs around 90 today through Sunday with a 10% chance of rain Sunday.

Prescott’s forecast calls for highs in the upper 80s today through Sunday with a 5% chance of rain on Sunday. Expect highs in the low 90s in Sedona all weekend. Rain doesn’t enter the picture until a 5% chance of showers creeps into the Sunday forecast.

Show Low’s forecast calls for highs in the mid-80s today and Friday, and the low 80s for Saturday and Sunday. The weekend forecast calls for a 10%20% chance of rain from Friday through Sunday.
