Blood Systems is unifying its 10 blood center brands, including United Blood Services, under the new name Vitalant, the provider announced in a press release.

Vitalant said the move reflects the company’s commitment to donors to provide a “consistent and seamless experience across all centers and blood drives.”

Vitalant serves communities across 40 states, including Arizona, and operates 127 donation centers and thousands of mobile blood drives where donors supply 1.8 million donations a year, the provider said. Vitalant operates six donation centers in metro Phoenix.

“Our organization has grown to encompass blood donation centers and specialty services from coast to coast. As transfusion medicine leaders, we embrace this opportunity to combine our innovative capabilities,” said Vitalant President and CEO Dave Green, in the press release.

The 10 donation centers that come together collectively under the name Vitalant are: Blood Centers of the Pacific, BloodSource, Bonfils Blood Center, Central Blood Bank, Community Blood Services, Inland Northwest Blood Center, Lifeblood, LifeShare, LifeSource and United Blood Services, in addition to the umbrella organization Blood Systems.

With national headquarters in Scottsdale, Vitalant said it supports nearly 1,000 hospitals and health-care facilities throughout the United States.

On Saturday, websites for United Blood Services and Blood Systems were reflecting the change and redirecting to the Vitalant homepage.

Vitalant said the new name “embodies something vital and full of life, and is directly connected to the organization’s vision to create life-transforming outcomes for nationwide communities.”
