SCOTTSDALE – January 21, 1920 – May 23, 2018

Sue Halavan, 98, passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona May 23rd. She is survived by her daughter, Marti Bening, grandchildren Chris (Brianna) and Jennifer (Brendan) and great grandchildren Casey, Wyatt, and Lola.

Born in Pennsylvania, she moved to Michigan after marrying her husband James and raised her daughter there. Sue was skilled in sewing and interior design. She used those talents in working 27 years for Morris Sklare who supplied designers with custom made draperies.

Her daughter moved to Arizona and upon retirement, Sue and Jim joined them when grandchildren were born. Blessed with a strong work ethic, Sue continued to work in window coverings with CAVCO manufactured homes for another 10 years. In addition, they purchased real estate and managed an apartment complex and a trailer park. Always attuned to the financial world, they became well versed and active in the stock market, an interest she pursued until her death.

Sue was an avid collector-thimbles, soup tureens, miniature sewing machines, bears and doll/doll accessories. Noteworthy is her amazing collection of antique porcelain dolls.

Sue was an amazing woman – energetic, loving, generous and kind. She will be missed by family and friends, but we will keep her spirit in our hearts forever. A small service was held in Scottsdale and her ashes will be taken to Pittsburgh to be interred next to her beloved husband, James.

We believe her passion in doll collection reflects her love of children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either of the following organizations benefitting children.
