Cindy McCain tweeted Monday evening that she and her husband of 38 years have returned to their home near Sedona.

U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, had been recovering from surgery for an intestinal infection related to diverticulitis at the Mayo Clinic. His family and office said the six-term senator was in stable condition.

McCain, 81, has been battling a deadly form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma and has been in Arizona since Dec. 17.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, his wife tweeted a picture of a view near their family getaway in Cornville.

She and her husband “are home in our beloved Hidden Valley. Enjoying a glorious Arizona sunset.”

While Cindy’s tweet suggests the senator has been released from the hospital, his office has not clarified his medical condition. Last week, his family and office said he was recovering from side effects of cancer treatment and has been doing physical therapy at his Cornville home.

Earlier Monday, the senator’s daughter, Meghan McCain, said her father was “doing well.” Meghan, a political commentator and host of ABC’s “The View,” thanked the team of doctors and nurses who cared for him.

“My dad’s doing well,” she said on the show. “I want to thank everyone at Mayo Clinic — especially his doctors and nurses. I think it just takes a really special person to become a doctor or a nurse, because I could never do it, and it’s really an amazing thing.”
