TITANS OWNER, EARLY PIONEER ADAMS DIES

Tennessee: Owner Bud Adams, who helped found the American Football League and whose battles for players helped lead to the merger with the NFL, has died. He was 90. The team announced Monday that Adams had died, saying he “passed away peacefully from natural causes.” He moved the team to Tennessee in 1997 when he couldn’t get the new stadium he wanted in Houston. St. Louis: QB Sam Bradford is done for the season, and the burden for the Rams has just become a whole lot bigger. He will have will have seasonendi­ng surgery for a torn ligament in his left knee, a major blow to a team seeking its first winning record in a decade. Indianapol­is: The Colts’ victory over Peyton Manning came at a hefty price. Andrew Luck lost his favorite target and the locker room lost one of its most revered leaders when Reggie Wayne was diagnosed Monday with a torn anterior-cruciate ligament in his right knee that will cost him the rest of the season. Seattle: WR Percy Harvin is returning to practice after missing the first seven weeks of the season following hip surgery. The team was not scheduled to practice until today following last Thursday’s win over the Cardinals. Harvin has been on the physically unable to perform list all season after surgery to repair the labrum in his hip. Philadelph­ia: Fresh off an inauspicio­us debut, Matt Barkley could start his first NFL game for the Eagles because he’s the only healthy quarterbac­k on the roster. Filling in for the injured Nick Foles, Barkley threw three intercepti­ons in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 17-3 loss to Dallas. Bradley flew home to Zumbrota, Minn., on Monday to be with his family, turning interim coaching duties over to secondary coach DeWayne Walker. Washington: S Brandon Meriweathe­r has been suspended for two games by the NFL for a pair of helmet-first hits. The league announced Monday that Meriweathe­r will sit out this week against the Broncos and the following game against the Chargers. Chicago: The Bears were already losing games. Now they’re going to be without their most important players on both sides of the ball. Injured QB Jay Cutler will miss at least the next four weeks of the season and Pro Bowl LB Lance Briggs will be out for around six weeks. Baltimore-Miami trade: T Bryant McKinnie has been traded by the Ravens to the Dolphins, who are anxious to shore up a leaky offensive line. The Ravens will receive a conditiona­l late-round draft pick, coach John Harbaugh said Monday. New Orleans: Jonathan Vilma has returned to practice, the first step in a possible return to game action from the club’s injured-reserve list. Now in his 10th season, Vilma had arthroscop­ic surgery on his left knee in August. Green Bay: TE Jermichael Finley suffered a significan­t neck injury in the win over the Browns and needs more tests to determine the severity. But coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Finley was upbeat and “performing daily activities.”
